Released August 2026. JagFest edition limited to 100 units.
Mechtiles was announced back in the early 1990s from acclaimed Lynx developer Beyond Games, but development stalled very early in the project. Songbird acquired rights including source code over 25 years ago. It has been unavailable to the public, until now.
Mechtiles (“mechanized reptiles“) was intended to be a game of mechanized dinosaur arena combat. This is a very early alpha with minimal gameplay, showcasing the same 3D engine used in BattleWheels and CyberVirus. In 2026, Songbird founder Carl Forhan was able to get the code building for the first time since the 1990s, and made some minor updates including new boot screen, new title screen, and general bug fixes around the title screen and user interface.
This is a cartridge only release (no box or manual). Because of the alpha nature of the game, this release is primarily intended for collectors who want to own a longlost piece of Lynx history.
